Every year, Lake Yellowstone freezes over during the deep cold winter, and then slowly melts each spring. The edges of the ice are in the shallower warmer waters and melt back, as the thicker ice towards the middle cracks in large chunks. As the bulk of the ice finally heaves and cracks, it begins to flow out of the lake and down the Yellowstone River. This epic event tends to occur in a short window of only 24 hours, and its truly a sight to behold. This series of bowls was created to commemorate that awesome event.
