A tale in three parts; the Thermophile triptych is inspired by the life cycles and coping mechanisms of Yellowstones' thermal pools near Mammoth Hot Springs. The orange carotenoids protect plant microorganisms that grow in the pools infancy. As the pools reach their peak of life, bacteria grow and feed on hydrogen sulfate and carbon dioxide, producing the yellow we see. Finally, as the pools age further, calcite begins to harden in layers and forms grey and white fossil like impressions of the once living organisms in these pools. There is so much beauty to be found in the lifecycles of these pools. Sold as a triptych, each is a 6" x 6" kiln glass square mounted in a 9" x9" handmade solid walnut frame.
